GOTONG-ROYONG: BENEVO BAKTI X AGRIVA

TWELFTH COLLEGE SESSION 2025/2026

SERDANG, 28th JUNE – The Gotong-Royong: Benevo Bakti X Agriva programme was organised by the Secretariat of Volunteerism and Internationalisation, College Representative Council of Twelfth College session 2025/2026 in collaboration with the Management of Twelfth College. This programme was a volunteerism initiative aimed at carrying out cleaning activities and preparing the AGRIVA 2 site area while increasing awareness among students regarding the importance of maintaining cleanliness and environmental sustainability. Through this programme, participants were exposed to the responsibilities involved in preserving the environment and encouraged to develop concern towards pollution issues that may affect the well-being of society. Participation in this community service activity also fostered teamwork and unity while providing opportunities for participants to develop soft skills such as communication, leadership, and teamwork.

The programme commenced at 8.30 a.m. with the arrival of participants and staff, followed by breakfast at AGRIVA 2 Site, Kolej Serumpun, UPM. At 9.20 a.m., the arrival of Associate Prof. Madya Dr. Siti Suriawati Isa, Principal of Twelfth College, was followed by an officiating speech and a photography session with participants. Participants and staff then carried out a warm-up session before beginning the gotong-royong activities. The programme continued with the construction of planting beds, which began at 9.45 a.m.

During the Gotong-Royong Programme: Benevo Bakti X Agriva, the main activity carried out was the construction of planting beds for the AGRIVA 2 garden as an effort to create a more systematic and suitable planting area for seed sowing to benefit students. The activity began with cleaning the area by removing grass, stones, and debris that could interfere with the planting process before loosening the soil to improve aeration and drainage. Participants then worked together to shape the loosened soil into organised raised beds that were elevated above the surrounding ground level to prevent water accumulation and support healthier root development. In addition, the preparation of planting beds would facilitate future watering, fertilisation, and maintenance activities. Throughout the activity, participants divided tasks such as soil loosening, levelling the planting beds, and preparing seed-sowing areas, making the development of the AGRIVA 2 garden a platform to cultivate teamwork, volunteerism, and awareness of sustainable agricultural practices among university students.

At exactly 11.30 a.m., the planting bed construction activity was completed, followed by lunch. Participants and management staff took this opportunity to enjoy lunch and rest briefly before continuing with the cleaning of the surrounding area and storing gardening and construction equipment. By 1.00 p.m., all cleaning activities had been completed, and participants together with staff prepared to return home. The Gotong-Royong Programme: Benevo Bakti X Agriva was successfully carried out and concluded smoothly.
