Global Outreach Programme Kolej 12

  

 

On 17th January 2019, seven members of Student Supreme Council of the Twelfth College 2018/2019 departed to Tokyo, Japan from Kuala Lumpur Internationa Airport 2 (KLIA2) in conjunction with the Global Outreach Programme Kolej 12 (GOP) which was held for 14 days. They were escorted by two Fellows of the Twelfth College, namely Ms. Najidah Abdullah and Ms. Ghaibulna Lajis. The main objectives of this programme are:

 

  1. To produce a more idealized, proactive and creative students through observation and open or global dialogue.
  2. To strengthen two-way relationship between two higher learning institutions with the purpose to provide exchange of ideas in education and strive to discover knowledge.
  3. To identify and understand foreign culture in the context to instill unity between students, and to encourage exchange of cultural ideas between countries.

This program began officially on 18th January at Haneda International Airport. Participants had taken a public bus from the airport to the city of Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture. Notable activities held there include a visit to Tsukuba Expo Center which is a museum that exhibits technologies developed by Japanese nationals. Participants had also taken the chance to experience being at the peak of Mount Tsukuba. The 877 metres tall mountain is a sacred site for the Shinto believers. Participants had also been invited by the Malaysian students studying in Tsukuba University for a dinner. Apart from that, participants have had a benchmarking program Tsukuba University for two days. The findings of the program include the introduction of Algae Biomass Research Centre (ABES), Tsukuba Plant Innovation Research Center (T-PIRC) and Agriculture and Forestry Research Centre (AFRC). Acknowledgement should be given to Dr. Tofael Ahamed and Dr. Ryozo Noguchi together with their Masters and PhD students for their hospitality throughout the program.

On 22nd January 2019, participants of GOP departed to Tokyo, Japan to continue their adventure in Japan. In Tokyo, participants had the chance to meet with two students of the Twelfth College who were then students of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT). They are Muhammad Hairul Izam K. Abdul Rahman and Khairul Amirin Khairuddin. Participants had also visited numerous attractions in Tokyo such as Shibuya, Shinjuku, Akihabara and others. One of the highlight is their visit to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. There, participants were given the chance to witness the panoramic view of Tokyo on top of its observatory deck which is 202 meters tall. Participants were also given explanation regarding the involvement of Tokyo Metropolitan Government in hosting the Summer Olympics 2020. Besides, participants had also visited Yoyogi Park which a reserved forest park in the middle of Tokyo. In the park lies Meiji Shrine which is regarded as one of the most important shrine of the Shinto believers. Participants had also visited Ueno Park and were given the chance to witness a few cherry blossoms tree blossoming. Also in Ueno, participants had visited Masjid As-Salaam Okachimachi and had discovered more of the muslims community there.

Global Outreach Programme Kolej 12 officially ended as participants arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) on 30th January 2019. One of the most important things the participants had learned while in Japan are their punctuality and their courtesy. It is hoped that the positive influences brought upon by the Japanese will be shared and applied by all residents of the Twelfth College.
